Mackenzie Dern & Paulo Miyao Receive $15,000 Each From IBJJF

Held one day before the start of the 2016 Jiu-Jitsu world championships, the IBJJF award ceremony crowned the best athletes and teams of 2016.

IBJJF president Carlos Gracie Jr. talked about the humble beginnings of the CBJJF/IBJJF:

As transcribed by Graciemag:

“We started doing weigh ins in my house, people would line up on the street shirtless and hungry. For the first PAN in the USA, we got a sponsorship and put 100 people on a plane. My goal was always to help all of us to live off the sport we love. This is just the beginning. Now that the world respects Jiu-Jitsu and we can reach even higher. I want to say thanks to all of those who worked for the improvement of our art. I pledge you all to never stop dreaming and believe in your dreams. What we have today is the realization of what we dreamed 20 years ago.”
