Mackenzie Dern has received her ADCC 2024 invitation several weeks back…
And she appears to be excited about the prospect of competing in submission grappling again!
As she explained in a recent interview, it’s not so much about getting back to BJJ full time, but more so about challenging herself:
I was really wanting to kind of not, like, come back full time Jiu-Jitsu or anything like that…
[I have a] very similar grappling style to MMA, you know, no-gi, kind of submission oriented…
But kind of just wanted to – I really felt like ADCC in 2015 (I) had won [it].
I didn’t want to do like a super fight, and I kind of wanted to get back in with the new generation girls and see how I do with them.
Mackenzie Dern boasts an impressive resume, including multiple IBJJF world titles – as well as victories over seasoned competitors like Tammi Musumeci, Michelle Nicolini, and Gabi Garcia.
Since transitioning to mixed martial arts, Dern has earned a considerable success in the UFC’s strawweight division.
After a flawless 5-0 record in other promotions, she joined the UFC in 2018; securing notable wins before encountering several setbacks, including a loss to Amanda Ribas.
Despite facing adversity, Dern remains a prominent figure in the UFC’s strawweight division – consistently competing among the top contenders and maintaining her #8 ranking.
Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
