On August 7, 2022, the Jiu-Jitsu community was devastated by the tragic loss of one of its greatest icons, eight-time world champion Leandro Lo.
Lo, only 33 years old, was brutally murdered during a pagode show in São Paulo – but his legacy continues to inspire and resonate within the Jiu-Jitsu community.
Leandro Lo’s mother, Fátima Lo, recently spoke to Tatame about her son’s enduring influence and the two years since his passing:
I knew about Leandro’s strength in Jiu-Jitsu due to his titles and charisma…
I saw how great he is, the true champion of the people.Everyone has a good story to tell about him, they have a lot of affection for him, every day someone comes to tell me about him, that he continues to inspire.
I know he will never be forgotten for his achievements and, mainly, for the incredible person he was and how much he dedicated himself to get where he is.
The Jiu-Jitsu community has rallied around Fátima and her family, providing comfort and support:
The Jiu-Jitsu community has welcomed us since Leandro left, always comforting me with messages and requests for justice.
I feel like I’m not alone. This support has made all the difference. This love and affection for Leandro has been passed on to us, especially to me.
As a mother, I am very grateful for all of this.
Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
