Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Kurt Osiander has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind, and his recent appearance on the BJJ Fanatics podcast was no exception.
Known for his candid opinions and deep knowledge of BJJ, Osiander shared his thoughts on many topics – including self-defense & Jiu-Jitsu’s practical applications.
When asked about the most effective Jiu-Jitsu technique for real-world scenarios, Osiander was crystal clear in his opinion:
You blast double them into, let’s say, the potato chip stand, and now they are entangled in the potato chip stand, and you are on top of them.
Look, I’m gonna start punching you, or you’ll be choked unconscious – or both…
Or you can stop moving and wait for the police to arrive.
Osiander also emphasized the importance of control and de-escalation in self-defense, highlighting that Jiu-Jitsu is as much about responsibility as it is about skill.
He also warned against getting involved in unnecessary altercations, particularly in workplace situations…
Because, essentially, nothing material is worth risking your life for:
Don’t get in any altercations over something at your store.
If someone’s stealing, the place has got insurance.
