Kit Dale On PEDs In Jiu-Jitsu: “How Can People Look At Their Medals And Know…”

Kit Dale is back in the grappling scene – and again, he’s doubling down on clean competition.

In a recent appearance on The Grapplers Perspective Podcast, Dale didn’t mince words when addressing the sport’s ongoing battle with performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs):

I think it needs to be clean. It’s dangerous for the athletes. It’s dangerous for their opponents and it doesn’t breed honest results.

He pointed to personal experiences, like a match against Paulo Miyao that he narrowly lost by advantage or referee decision – only to later find out his opponent had tested positive for PEDs.

It’s those moments that fuel Dale’s drive for reform:

If I could make my own little perfect world, I would have everybody being tested.

While acknowledging medical gray zones like TRT, Dale believes firm lines need to be drawn for the sport’s future integrity.
And he’s not shy about the moral dimension either:

I don’t understand how people can look at their medals and know that that wasn’t really all them. They were cheating in a certain way. I can’t do that.

As organizations like UFC BJJ invest in stricter drug testing and professionalize the sport, Dale sees a future where clean athletes can thrive:

Hopefully our children will go into the cleaner sports and then [PEDs] just eventually die out.
