King Charles III Visits Roger Gracie Academy & Gets A BJJ White Belt

BJJ just received a major moment of mainstream recognition this week, as King Charles III visited the Roger Gracie Academy headquarters in London.

The visit marked the British Royal Family’s first public engagement centered around Jiu-Jitsu and highlighted the work of Reorg, a charity that uses the sport to support military personnel and emergency service workers.

The connection was made through Reorg founder Sam Sheriff, the head of Royal Marines Unarmed Combat and the first Royal Marine Commando to earn a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Sheriff founded Reorg to help veterans and emergency responders improve their physical, mental, and social wellbeing through Jiu-Jitsu.
Over the years, the organization has gained support from many of the sport’s biggest names, making it one of the most respected charities in the grappling community.

During his visit, King Charles met with both Sheriff and Roger Gracie to learn more about Reorg’s mission and the positive impact Jiu-Jitsu has had on those it serves.

The King also watched demonstrations on the mats, including Roger Gracie showcasing techniques, and witnessed a black belt promotion ceremony.

To commemorate the occasion, Roger presented King Charles III with a white belt.
