Khabib Nurmagomedov has been retired from competition for several years now.
He keeps training hard nevertheless – mainly due to his love for the sport and for having been training ever since he was a boy.
However, there may be yet another reason why the Dagestani MMA legend keeps putting in the work. The reason why many of us do so as well.
Mental health.
Nurmagomedov revealed the importance of training for his mental health all the way back in 2020, which marked an exceptionally difficult period of life for him – having lost his father in July:
I train all the time, I like it.
When I don’t have training, I’m depressed.I’ve been training all my life…
To have good energy, I need to train.
He explained how his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, was the same like him:
He always trained.
His friends always said that wherever they went, he always had a bag with him.First, he set up a place for himself to sleep, and then he looked for a gym to train.
I think I got it from him. This is very important for me, because as long as I’m an active athlete, and as soon as I stop developing, it will be bad.
