Jordan Burroughs has spent his career beating the best wrestlers in the world, so when asked whether MMA fighters stepping into RAF could genuinely hang with an Olympic gold medalist, most expected him to shut the idea down.
Instead, he gave a surprisingly measured answer:
I think, I mean, yeah, Merab just beat Henry Cejudo just a few weeks ago.
So yes, it’s definitely possible.
He did, however, draw a line back in his own favor almost immediately after:
But I’m different. That’s it.
Burroughs, 38, is set to step into the ring himself at RAF 12 in Cleveland, Ohio, an event marking the promotion’s one-year anniversary.
His opponent is Sean Brady, a UFC welterweight with ties to Philadelphia that overlap with Burroughs’ own background in the city, despite the two never having crossed paths before this matchup came together.
Burroughs made clear there’s no personal history driving the fight, just respect for what Brady has accomplished.
Here is what he had to say in a separate interview:
I don’t know much about Sean. We both lived in Philadelphia for a period of time. We have mutual acquaintances, but him and I have never really crossed paths…
I wouldn’t want to fight him. Let’s put it that way.
