You’ve heard of gi and no-gi grappling. But have you ever heard of full suit grappling?
Enter: the John Wick Invitational.
To be more accurate, the second John Wick Invitational — shortened to JWI-2, likely to “minimize the chance of getting sued”, given the clear nod to the famous movie franchise.
The event is presented by xSuit, an apparel company known for “The World’s Most Comfortable Suit” – which certainly gets put to the test here.
The concept is simple but brilliant: full-on jiu-jitsu matches fought while wearing suits, evoking the slick, high-intensity action of John Wick.
It’s part genius, part absurdity — especially as the match heads into its final phase.
Because if there’s no submission after four minutes, then things escalate.
A coin flip decides whether a prop gun or prop knife is tossed into the pit, and the last minute turns into a chaotic scramble where competitors try to either grab the gun and get a shot off – or grab the knife and stab your way to victory.
It’s an over-the-top twist that makes you almost hope the early submissions don’t happen — though there’s still plenty of classic action when fights end by standard submissions before overtime.
