John Danaher Reveals When It Is The Best Time To Attack Your Opponent

Your offense is not only as good as your submissions and their setups…
But it’s also only as good as when you go for the attack.

However, given the dynamic nature of BJJ, it’s not so easy to understand (or figure out) when to launch offense.
Which is why the following advice from none other than John Danaher would be of great help.

He explains that the best time to attack your opponent is in the middle of their move.

The best time to attack is when an opponent is in the middle of executing a move.

Most people work in steps. When they execute a move there is a clear beginning, middle and end to that execution.
When they complete the execution there is a consolidation period where they return to their stance and a mindset of defensive responsibility.

Therefore, it is in this transition that you should attack:

However, in the midst of execution of a given move they are preoccupied with what they want to do and are not so defensively responsible.
Moreover because they are moving, any interruption of that movement tends to have a more dramatic effect on them than usual.

Thus if you can attack in the middle of their execution of a move, this will be highly disruptive and easier to initiate.
