Joao Miyao Drops Out of ADCC, Competes Instead in IBJJF Open & Takes Double Gold

A few days ago, it was announced that Joao  Miyao had dropped out of ADCC 2015′ -66kg division.

The ADCC did not release the reason why Miyao is out of the competition and also is yet to confirm the name of his substitute.

The decision happened after Miyao had a superfight with Garry Tonon at Five Invitational. Garry Tonon beat Joao by one penalty after a 0-0 tie in 16 minutes.  Last weekend Joao competed at the Eddie Bravo Invitational where he took 3rd place.

In both competitions, he was caught in some deep heel hooks and amazed grappling fans with his resistance and flexibility.

It was assumed that Miyao dropped out of ADCC due to injury sustained from the heel hooks but this weekend he competed in the IBJJF Boston Open (where there are no heel hooks) and João Miyao took double gold!

Miyao beat Lincoln Pereira for the absolute gold medal and also won the light-featherweight division.

ADCC is the most prestigious No Gi grappling competition in the world and significant cash prizes, So Miyao must have some other reasons for not competing.
