Jacob “The Hillbilly Hammer” Couch Promoted To BJJ Black Belt

Jacob “The Hillbilly Hammer” Couch has done just about everything there’s to do and win at the brown belt level.
So, when he won the heavyweight division at the recent IBJJF No-Gi World Championships, there was not much more that could crown his achievements… Except being promoted to the rank of a BJJ black belt, of course!

Couch was promoted to black belt while standing on the podium, by the main coach and owner of the popular Pedigo Submission Fighting (aka “Daisy Fresh”) team – Heath Pedigo.

However, despite only just being promoted to the black belt rank, Couch has been one of the top-ranking submission grappling athletes for quite a while.
For instance, earlier this year, he won the ADCC Open (in the 91kg division) and has competed in a number of promotions, against elite opponents. He won the bronze medal at Who’s Number One (WNO), where he stepped in on short notice… And submitted the likes of Jon “Thor” Blank and Roberto Jimenez.

He also took on Gordon Ryan in a main WNO event, which was undoubtedly the toughest challenge of his career. And even though Ryan submitted him, it still went on to show that the future of “The Hillbilly Hammer” is more than bright.
