Jack Jenkins’ weekend at UFC 312 turned out to be far worse than just a tough loss inside the octagon.
Jenkins faced Gabriel Santos in a preliminary bout on Saturday, starting strong and even dropping Santos with a kick in the opening round.
However, as the fight progressed, the Brazilian took control and ultimately secured a Rear Naked Choke finish in the third round.
But his troubles did not end there.
Jenkins was taken to the hospital for post-fight medical evaluations and initially discharged.
However, he was later readmitted after doctors discovered fractured cartilage in his thyroid.
MMA Fighting has confirmed that he remained under medical supervision throughout the weekend before being released from the ICU on Monday.
However, Jenkins’ team does not believe the injury happened due to the Rear Naked Choke.
Rather, they are speculating that it may have occurred at the end of the first round – as he informed his corner of numbness and a loss of strength in his left arm.
The defeat drops Jenkins to 3-2 in the UFC, with an overall professional record of 13-4.
