Helena Crevar’s rise through the grappling world has been nothing short of meteoric, and during a recent interview, the 17-year-old star revealed several major updates about her career.
When asked about her relationship with ONE Championship, Crevar confirmed what many fans had been speculating:
Yeah, I just recently signed the contract in July and I debute in January.
One of the most staggering details Crevar shared during the interview was her astonishingly rapid progression through the upper belts:
I got my purple belt last year in September.
After that, brown was in December and then black in June.
So in seven months, I believe.
Despite signing with ONE, Crevar clarified that her contract is not restrictive:
My contract’s open to compete everywhere else.
This flexibility means Crevar will still appear at major grappling events outside ONE – something fans will undoubtedly welcome.
She spoke about the importance of the training environment at New Wave, especially for a female athlete pushing the limits of what’s possible in the sport:
It’s important for them to get good male training partners.
I train with pretty big guys and they’re all really safe to train with.
They don’t go full on, they lower their pace so that we can both have a good round.
As for whether fans should expect an MMA transition anytime soon, Crevar was straightforward:
At the moment, no MMA. Just Jiu-Jitsu.
I mean, we’ll see what the future holds, but right now, like for the next year or two, probably not.
