Head Of Brazilian Financial Institution Allegedly Offered $60,000 To Buy A BJJ Black Belt

Earning a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt typically takes years of training and thousands of rounds on the mats…

But Daniel Vorcaro allegedly tried to skip that process entirely, by offering an instructor $60,000 for the rank.

The alleged offer, reported by Brazil’s Federal Police, was worth approximately R$300,000, or roughly $55,000 to $60,000.
In exchange, Vorcaro reportedly sought a black belt without going through the years of training typically required to earn one.

Vorcaro, the former head of Banco Master, is at the center of a major financial investigation in Brazil that has also implicated a presidential candidate.
While reviewing data recovered from his phone, investigators reportedly found messages showing that Vorcaro, who has trained jiu-jitsu recreationally for years, approached an instructor in Recife, Pernambuco, with the proposal.

The detail quickly became one of the most talked-about elements of an investigation otherwise centered on financial records, corporate entities, and allegations involving far larger sums of money.

According to messages referenced by investigators, the instructor turned down the offer, making clear that a black belt isn’t something that can simply be bought, and that the principles behind the rank matter just as much as the belt itself.
