Have you ever stopped to think about how it’d be like to train under John Danaher’s tutelage?
As in, how much of a difference that training session would make?
Not even a full month of training or anything like that. But even just for one day?
Well, Gordon Ryan has a personal example that might tickle your imagination even further.
Recalling a particularly challenging day in the gym, Ryan said:
We came into the gym one day and we tried to do back escapes, and it was just the worst workout ever.
Like, we had a 0% escape rate, nobody escaped. And John’s like: “This is going to be a real problem.”
If someone locks a Body Triangle on you, you know…
Like, none of us figured out how to get out.
So, Danaher resorted to studying match footage in order to come up with a solution:
He comes in the next day and he finds a match between Roger Gracie and Tim Kennedy, and Tim Kennedy successfully escaped Roger’s back control multiple times during the match.
So, this guy went home and spent the entire night looking for matches where guys, high level guys can escape the back.
And he came in and he taught us his escapes that Tim Kennedy used versus Roger.
The results were immediate, to say the least:
We went from one day having a 0% escape rate to, like, an 80% escape rate the next day.
And then we kind of just built it from there and everything snowballed.
And then, you know, we ended up dominating the EBIs.
