Gordon Ryan Exposes The “Hidden” Training Habit That’s Holding You Back

Our lives aren’t made out of only our thoughts, but more so out of the actions we take every day. In other words, the habits we have and cultivate.

The life on the mats is no different. And, in case you want to build the best life for yourself possible, you need to not just take on the best of habits you can – but discard the ones which are holding you back.

And, well, Gordon Ryan wants you to get rid of the one habit which is holding you back a lot.
The trying to win every round one.

Here is what he had to say on the topic:

Everyone’s trying to win every round.
Like, I don’t try to win every round. I’m trying to learn new stuff every round.

If you’re just trying to win every round you’re only going to get good at the things that you’re good at.
You’re only going to get better at the things you’re already good at.

Furthermore, Ryan urges practitioners to deliberately put themselves in uncomfortable situations – where the anxiety is real:

Most of the time when you’re forced into bad positions, you have such anxiety about being in bad positions just trying to explode out and you don’t actually learn anything anyways.

For Ryan, the solution is to reframe what a training session is for.
Not for validation. Not for ego. Not even for domination. But for discovery:

Experimenting and not being afraid to fail.

No one’s making any money doing this especially if you’re not competing – which is probably most people in here.
