Gordon Ryan Admits Nicky Rod Broke His Ankle With A Toehold

Gordon Ryan faced Nick Rodriguez – who stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Vinny Magalhaes – in the latest UFC Fight Pass Invitational event.
The match went into overtime (EBI rules) and Ryan emerged as a victor.

However, the bout wasn’t as dominantly one-sided as Ryan’s matches have often been. Nick played a careful game and, even though Gordon got a hold of his legs, he was unable to finish him.

But, in an interesting turn of events, Rodriguez countered with a Leglock himself –  a Toehold which he ripped with what appeared all his might!
The crowd (and the referee) cringed as Ryan foot popped throughout… But he didn’t tap.

Gordon didn’t hide what happened. During the post-fight press conference, he confessed that Rodriguez broke his foot:

Oh yeah, that was my ankle.
I was trying to switch to a Fifty-Fifty Heel Hook and I wasn’t respecting his [Rodriguez’s] mechanics, because I know he doesn’t do Leg Locks that much.

Rodriguez caught him mid-way:

I was trying to figure out how to transition from an Achilles grip to a Heel Hook grip. And while I was doing that, he put on a Toe Hold, and then he just ripped it as hard as he could, and my leg broke.
