Gilbert Burns is set to return to professional Jiu-Jitsu competition, where he will face Horlando Monteiro at UFC BJJ 9!
Before his rise in MMA, Burns was one of the top grapplers in the world, winning three IBJJF World Championship titles between 2010 and 2013 across both gi and no-gi.
He also secured a bronze medal at ADCC 2015, competing against the very elite of the sport.
However, as his MMA career gained momentum, Burns gradually shifted his focus away from Jiu-Jitsu.
After making his MMA debut in 2012 and joining the UFC shortly after, he climbed the welterweight rankings and eventually challenged for the title in 2021.
That same year marked his most recent Jiu-Jitsu appearance, where he was submitted by Lucas Barbosa at BJJ Stars 7.
Burns announced his retirement from MMA just over a year ago following his fight against Mike Malott, but made it clear he intended to continue competing in grappling.
Now, after a five-year absence from Jiu-Jitsu competition, he returns against a seasoned opponent in Monteiro, who has faced many of the top names in the sport.
The bout is expected to serve as the co-main event, leading into the headline matchup where Mason Fowler will defend his light heavyweight title against Devhonte Johnson.
