Georges St-Pierre: “You Need To Face Adversity At A Young Age”

How do you become strong and resilient, both in Jiu-Jitsu and life alike? It’s simple, really: by facing adversity.
And the earlier you face it in life, the better off you will be. Georges St-Pierre believes in that as well:

I think that it’s important to face adversity… It helps if you face it at a very young age, it helps because it molds you. Especially if you’re able to overcome it.
Because, if you’ve never faced adversity before and if you face it for the first time, and you’re not prepared for it… It can break you. It can make you fold.

St-Pierre emphasizes that kids need to learn about the value of hard work as soon as possible. It will teach them confidence:

Like, let’s say it’s someone who is really wealthy and they always pay everything for their kids. The kids haven’t learned the importance of hard work.

I think it’s important to teach that to kids, the importance of hard work and the importance of adversity. You know, not to break them when they’re young and lose their confidence, because I believe that confidence is everything.

You can have all the skills in the world, but if you don’t have confidence… It’s like someone who has money in their bank account, but no way of accessing it.
So, by facing adversity and by overcoming it, you’re building your confidence.
