According to sources close to the athlete, Gabi Garcia is out of the World Jiu-Jitsu , which takes place in Long Beach, California this weekend.
The black belt world fractured a rib, last week, injuring her abdomen muscle but still embarked for the United States, planning on competing.
Garcia is the most dominant champion of female Jiu-Jitsu, and was considered the favorite in all competitions that she dispute, both in Brazil and abroad.
A few days ago, Garcia, had announced on the Brazilian television show Corujao Do Esporte that she intends to make her MMA debut on August 17, 2014 in Japan.
Garcia won this year’s Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Pro and now is set to make her debut in August on the same card as Kron Gracie at Japan’s Real Fight Championship.
Real Fight Championship has previously held three events in China. Real Fight is Japanese-owned and operated in China, and has previously copromoted with Wulinfeng.
Real Fight have showcased Chinese stars such as TUF veterans Zhang Lipeng and Yang Jianping, along with former Legend FC champ Yao Honggang.
Gabi told Tatame.com:
“My debut is scheduled for August 17th. I’m going to fight in Real Fight in Japan, in the category of up to 93 kilos (205lbs). I have 20 pounds to lose. It’s hard, but I’ll do it. I hope I’ll ready by then.”
Garcia also revealed that she had two offers from the Brazilian promotion XFC.
“They offered me two fights … in Brazil. I’m studying the possibility with my master Fabio Gurgel.”
It is still unclear if this injury will affect her MMA debut in August.
