Former UFC bantamweight contender Casey Kenney was released from police custody, following his arrest on August 16, 2024.
The arrest stemmed from serious charges – including kidnapping, assault, and aggravated assault – related to an alleged incident of domestic violence.
Kenney – who last competed in the UFC in August 2021 at UFC 265, where he suffered a split decision loss to Song Yadong – became the subject of allegations in July 2024, when the mother of an alleged ex-girlfriend accused him of domestic violence on social media.
Esther Reyes, the mother of the alleged victim, posted on Instagram, claiming that Kenney had barricaded himself inside his home following the incident:
Again my daughter press charges he barricaded himself in he (sic) home and no arrests were made as of today.
He’s still a freeman. Incident happened Monday, July 22, 2024.
On August 16, Phoenix Police Fugitive Apprehension Detectives arrested Kenney, booking him on charges that included aggravated assault (strangulation), assault, and kidnapping.
He has since been released from custody, according to a report by MMA Fighting.
Maricopa County records indicate that Kenney is facing a total of six charges, including a class 2 felony for kidnapping and a class 4 felony for strangulation/assault, along with four misdemeanor charges.
If convicted of the class 2 felony charge, Kenney could face a prison sentence ranging from a minimum of 4 years to a maximum of 12 and a half years.
