Ffion Davies has been training at the Essential Jiu-Jitsu academy – led by JT Torres – for two years now…
And has experienced radical improvements. Not just in her mat game, but more than anything else, in her mindset.
Davies recently opened up about her time training at Essential Jiu-Jitsu and how it changed her:
I’ve been lucky that I’d learnt a lot of great Jiujitsu prior to my move to New York, but I definitely struggled with believing in myself and thinking I was even worth the effort (effort from myself, and others).
JT and the crew scared me with their American positivity and PMA at first but now I am that person too.
It’s all about the mindset shift for Davies:
Believing in yourself is not embarrassing, and I finally feel I’m worth the effort.
When a negative thought or emotion comes in I’m able to flip the thought into a positive so easily its done without thinking, and having a room of people lifting you up out of it helps even more.
And it would appear that Davies is now turning a new page in her life…
Even though it’s unclear in which way:
Thank you JT and everyone at Essential for being the perfect safe haven after a very rough and sad period in my life.
I’ve grown so much and hope I can one day be half as good a coach and cultivate a similar environment of my own someday.

Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
