Zoe Lundy-Chen, 42, a BJJ brown belt competitor, had only stopped by the supermarket to pick up a drink before heading to class – when she found herself in the middle of an unfolding situation…
And she had to step in to restrain a man causing chaos in the store.
Here is what happened, as explained in her recent social media post:
I’d dropped in to Tesco to collect Pepsi max for class when some altercation flared up.
A guy was trashing the store, but when he jumped behind the registers and came out wielding a broken bottle it just really pissed me off.
Rather than step back, she made a split-second decision to get involved:
I’ve never intervened before but today it seemed necessary.
Drawing on her grappling background, Lundy-Chen closed the distance and took the man to the ground:
I jumped on his back and took him to the ground where he learned about my pressure until the police arrived.
Jiujitsu works in the street.
