Fabricio Andrey and Joao Mendes are set to collide at ONE Fight Night 40, in a featherweight submission grappling matchup with major title implications.
With no featherweight champion yet crowned in ONE Championship, Andrey has positioned himself as the clear frontrunner for an inaugural title fight.
He enters the bout undefeated in the promotion after back-to-back decision wins over Ashley Williams and Eduardo Granzotto, putting him at 2–0 against elite opposition.
Another victory would make his claim to a title shot extremely difficult to deny.
Already one of the sport’s most recognizable figures, Andrey is known for his complete skill set and his ability to consistently defeat larger opponents, a trait that has set him apart from the rest of the division.
Mendes, however, will be looking to disrupt that momentum in his promotional debut.
The two have history, having met at the IBJJF Pan Championship 2021, where Andrey won by submission in the gi.
More than four years later, this no-gi rematch presents a very different challenge.
Mendes also enters the bout riding the biggest accomplishment of his career, having captured gold in the featherweight division at the IBJJF World Championship earlier this year.
