DIEGO “PATO” OLIVEIRA VS. GIANNI GRIPPO

The fact that the EUG ruleset prohibits Guard Pulling in the first three minutes of the match (if an athlete pulls guard in this timeframe, he is given a penalty and his opponent is awarded two points) seemed to be an advantage for Oliveira in the finals match. Namely, Grippo was less comfortable on his feet than Oliveira was, so “Pato” shot for an early takedown; gaining a 2-0 lead.
However, Oliveira hasn’t managed to successfully impose his game for the remaining minutes of the match. Grippo kept him at bay, away from getting his guard passed, and finally secured a sweep which secured the score at 2-2.

As the match ended with that score, the referees gave the decision win to Oliveira.
