Elite Competitor Julia Alves Suspended By UAEJJF For Failed PEDs Test

Elite BJJ competitor Julia Alves has recently been handed a suspension from the UAEJJF (United Arab Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Federation) – following a positive test for the banned substance Oxandrolone earlier this year.

The suspension, issued by UAE NADA (the testing organization for UAEJJF), is effective retroactively from February 23, 2024, and will last three years – barring Alves from UAEJJF competitions until February 23, 2027.

While her suspension affects only UAEJJF events, it’s currently unclear which specific tournaments fall under its jurisdiction.
Notably, Alves continued to compete in several Abu Dhabi Grand Slam (ADGS) events since her suspension date, likely because the positive test result surfaced only recently.

Her absence at the recent Abu Dhabi Grand Slam – Xi’an 2024 event stands out, possibly indicating early enforcement of her sanction.
Despite this setback, Alves has been a dominant force on the AJP Tour – winning multiple ADGS titles and two consecutive Abu Dhabi World titles.

Though barred from UAEJJF events, Alves remains eligible to participate in IBJJF tournaments and other superfights.
