EA Sports CEO Andrew Wilson recently shared how his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training has influenced his business strategies.
And yes – he is a BJJ black belt as well!
Wilson highlighted that Jiu-Jitsu teaches valuable lessons in preparation and adaptability:
Jiu-Jitsu tells you that with the right technique and preparation, you don’t have to fear the big person.
But at the same time, if you are the bigger person, you should absolutely fear the smaller person if they’re effectively trained.
Wilson sees direct parallels between this mindset and EA’s position in the gaming industry.
As a major player, EA must stay alert to smaller competitors who could challenge their dominance:
For EA, we sit in this space where we’re also bigger than a lot of smaller companies.
We can’t be so arrogant to think that because we’re bigger, they can’t unseat us.But we’re also looking at the bigger competitors and saying: “I don’t necessarily have to be scared.”
Wilson’s martial arts journey began at a young age, and he’s pursued various disciplines before committing to BJJ – which he continues to train in weekly:
Nothing keeps you real like people choking you unconscious.
