In a surprising moment during a rally in Iowa, former U.S. President Donald Trump revealed plans to bring the UFC to the White House lawn as part of a nationwide celebration for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Trump asked the crowd, before dropping the bombshell:
Does anybody watch UFC?
The great Dana White. We’re going to have a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there. Dana’s going to do it. Dana’s great, one of a kind.
We’re going to have a UFC fight, a championship fight, like full fight, 20, 25,000 people and we’re going to do that as part of 250 also.
Trump’s comments instantly ignited speculation about how the logistics of such an event might play out.
A championship fight on White House grounds would mark an unprecedented fusion of combat sports and American political history – something never before seen in the country.
As part of the broader 250th anniversary plans, Trump also mentioned a series of professional and amateur events, but emphasized the UFC fight as a marquee attraction:
We’re going to have some incredible events. But the UFC fight’s going to be a big deal, too.
Trump and UFC CEO Dana White have maintained a close relationship for years, with White frequently voicing his support for Trump during political campaigns and high-profile events.
Trump himself is a regular presence at UFC cards, recently attending UFC 316 where fighters made a point to greet him cageside.
