Dillion Danis has always been a polarizing figure, equally known for his grappling pedigree as for his headline-grabbing behavior outside the cage.
After a long period away from MMA spotlight, he returned this year with a rapid 15-second submission, but recent comments suggest the UFC remains reluctant to bring him into the fold.
Asked about a potential move to the UFC during an interview with Demetrious Johnson, Danis said he’d even volunteered for The Ultimate Fighter house, only to be met with skepticism:
I offered to be in the (Ultimate Fighter) house, which is actually crazy, and Hunter said that I was going to punch someone in the house and just get out and use it for clout or something like that.
That was kind of like his thing. He was like: “Just tell him to get more fights.”
They’re scared that I’m just going to be too crazy.
He pointed to his high-profile run-ins and past brawls as the reason matchmakers and executives might be wary:
The whole Logan (Paul) build-up was crazy. I hit him with a microphone and all that bullsh*t, and I think they think that I’m going to bring that to the UFC where it’s like a totally different game.
That’s why this time I was a little bit more calm to show them I that I can be respectful and I can do that…
But obviously when someone hits you in the nuts with a f*cking bottle, I’m going to throw a mic at their face.
Danis argued the UFC’s caution is rooted in his reputation for getting into trouble:
I don’t know, I think they’re just scared of me.
Dana White even said: “He’s always getting in trouble”, like every time I go somewhere I get into fights with people.
