Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson continues to test himself outside of the MMA cage – recently stepping onto the mats for his second black belt appearance at the 2025 IBJJF Pan Championship.
Seeded 16th out of 17, Johnson faced the No. 2 seed right out of the gate – an athlete who had already racked up 359 points in the season.
Johnson ultimately lost the match.
However, Johnson did not regret being “behind on points” which are important when it comes to competition.
He prioritizes family time and content creation instead:
If you don’t travel around and do all these competitions and get your points, you’re always going to be seated last…
This is part of our family vacation.
We go to Universal Studios, hang out, and I get to compete.”
He then proceeded to talk about losing the match, showing his win-or-learn mindset in full display:
This is part of the game.
The thing about Jiu-Jitsu is that all it takes is one mistake.
One mistake and you’re down.
Johnson kept things in perspective:
I learned a lot from this competition.
It’s important to post your losses and obviously post your wins. This won’t be my last loss and this won’t be my last tournament.
As long as I focus and keep on training and drilling and drilling and learning…I hope to win one of these black belt tournaments.
