Demetrious Johnson: “I Really Want To Get My Black Belt”

Demetrious Johnson is the ONE Championship flyweight world champion.
And, on May 5 this year, he’ll be defending his title against the former flyweight champion Adriano Moraes.

This will be the 30th professional MMA fight for the “Mighty Mouse”. Could it be his last one?
Johnson isn’t certain, but he is already looking for things to do once he retires.

He wants to do a lot of stuff. And, as he emphasized in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on “The MMA Hour”, one of the things on his bucket list is to get promoted to a BJJ black belt:

Life’s too short not to explore different avenues, and it’s something that I want to do. It’s something I want to do.

And I don’t want to do a lot of things. But that’s something I was like, no, I want to do it.
I really want to get my black belt. I’m a brown belt now.

He also talked about many other interesting topics – such as not feeling any additional pressure if his kids were to watch him fight live:

I don’t know how they’re going to be seeing cageside. But if I see them, everyone’s going like, oh, you’re going to be so stoked.

I was like, no. I’d be, like: “What’s up? Are you being a good boy? You’re listening to Mom. Oh, I got to go fight. I’ll be right back.”
