Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson has officially retired from competing in MMA – but he is very keen on staying on the BJJ mats!
The former UFC flyweight champion shared this surprising decision in an interview with fellow fighter Merab Dvalishvili…
Explaining that he doesn’t find MMA enjoyable anymore.
And that he finds greater joy in Jiu-Jitsu:
I’m not going to fight anymore.
And the reason why is I don’t find mixed martial arts fun anymore.Reason why is because I find more fulfillment in doing Jiu-Jitsu, because I feel it’s harder.
I find more fulfillment in helping and training with different people.
Mighty Mouse went on to explain how stepping away from MMA allows him to experience the sport in a more collaborative way.
So, without the pressures of competition, Johnson looks forward to training with different athletes and learning from them:
If I’m, like – hey, I don’t care about winning. I don’t care about, you know, ever have an opportunity to fight you.
Hey Merab, can I come train with you?Yeah, you’re like – Demetrious, come train!
And then when we train together, you’re not going to [think] like, I need to beat you, [because] you’re trying to learn from me.
