Demetrious Johnson Confirms He’ll Continue Competing In Jiu-Jitsu – Despite MMA Retirement

Demetrious Johnson officially announced his retirement from mixed martial arts at ONE 168: Denver – marking the end of a legendary career.

The event featured an emotional farewell speech from “Mighty Mouse”, leaving fans emotional and nostalgic about his days of MMA competition…
However, all Jiu-Jitsu practitioners and fans can rejoice – as Johnson will continue competing in BJJ!

At 38, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt has shifted his focus to gi competitions and has already made an impact in the IBJJF scene.
During the ONE 168 broadcast, Johnson expressed his passion for his new path:

I fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu. I absolutely love it. It’s all I think about. It’s all I watch.
It’s kind of like my new passion, just like with mixed martial arts.

Johnson made it clear that he is fully committed to this new chapter in his athletic career:

So now I’m done competing in mixed martial arts.
Maybe one day you guys will see me in here grappling, do a grappling match.

But right now, I’m a gi boy.
I’m a gi boy, so I’m just going to pursue my passion for Jiu-Jitsu in the gi.
