Dean Lister On Injury Scare At Berkut

Dean Lister On Injury Scare At Berkut

The Berkut BJJ invitational was held on Saturday in Moscow, Russia and produced an amazing night of action with an amazing card with 13 elite level submission only matches.

The Berkut organisation was able to invite some of the biggest grappling stars in the world. This card was arguably the greatest card ever assembled for a grappling event.

The rules were 15 mins submission only. If the 15 mins ended with no submission, there would be 5 mins overtime with points. At the end of 20 mins if the match was still tied, there would be a judges decision.

In the Dean Lister vs Muhammad Kerimov match, the 2x ADCC champion Lister suffered a surprising loss to the largely unknown Russian grappler Kerimov.

Lister started well, sweeping Kerimov to mount but the Russian was able to reverse. The rest of the match was basically Kerimov pressuring Lister’s neck with constant and persistent head and arm control from inside closed guard.

Lister seemed to have it under control until Kerimov passed to top half guard. At this point Kerimov put even more pressure and incredibly, Lister tapped to the pain.

What happened after was scary. Lister lay on the floor screaming and with his body twitching in pain. For a moment everybody in the venue was worried that Lister had possibly snapped his neck. Lister eventually got up ad was hugged by Kerimov in a sign of respect.

Yesterday on his Facebook, Lister clarified the injury and his health situation. He dislocated his shoulder:
