Danielle Kelly: “At Least People Take Jiu-Jitsu Seriously Now”

ONE Fight Night 6 was an exciting one for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fans all around the world, considering it was the night when Mikey Musumeci faced Gantumur Bayanduuren.

And, even though Musumeci won by unanimous decision, he attacked Bayanduuren’s leg over and over throughout the bout…
Which showed for some gruesome scenes and multiple injuries to his opponent’s leg.

So should have Bayanduuren tapped out? Danielle Kelly believes so. But, in her opinion, at the very least people take BJJ seriously now:

Yeah, at least people take Jiu-Jitsu seriously now, like Leg Locks or anything just to make submissions work. So you make sure to tap.

Now, obviously, look at what happened. Yeah, I mean, I’d rather just tap. You’re losing more now with not doing anything for a year because you refused to tap.

Nevertheless, Kelly defended Musumeci’s decision to keep applying the Leg Lock, despite his opponent’s lack of willingness to tap:

Everyone out there complaining, I don’t think they’re real competitors and they’re probably hypocritical because if they were in a big stage like that and the other person didn’t want to tap, you want to make sure you’re submitting your opponent to get your prize or win that match.

Honestly, I haven’t seen anyone criticize Mikey for doing it, so I don’t know. But anyone giving him issues about it are just not real competitors.
