What’s your craziest submission win – either in competition or in training?
Well, Craig Jones has had quite a few of them.
Known for his lethal leg locks and a career filled with highlight-reel submissions, Jones spoke about the topic in an interview with Derek from More Plates More Dates.
He recounted a match from 2020 at Submission Underground against Vinny Magalhaes, a grappler notorious for his claim that “Heel Hooks don’t work” and his reputation for being almost impossible to leg lock.
Despite this, Jones not only secured a Heel Hook but inflicted one of the most gruesome injuries seen in professional grappling:
I put him in a Heel Hook, and he had a spiral fracture in his fibula and his ankle completely dislocated from his leg within, like, I think 30 seconds.
He didn’t even have time to really tap.
He just let his leg snap straight away.
He remembers the injury far too well:
That’s the most disturbing, and he doesn’t tap and it does a full 360, and I could see his bone poking into his skin like it was about to poke out. So that’s probably the most disturbing one.
Magalhaes tried to keep going despite the injury, but he ended up verbally tapping out soon enough…
Even though Jones believes he should have tapped much earlier:
It’s almost like… What’s wrong with you?
Why are you doing that? Why would you do that?Who cares bro, just tap…
Why would you make me do this to you?
