Craig Jones On Why He Refused A Match With Gordon Ryan (In December 2022)

Craig Jones was offered to compete against Gordon Ryan at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 3, last December…
But he declined the offer.

Why? Well, Jones explained that he was willing to do a 15-minute match, simply because of the time that he had to prepare for the match (around 6 weeks).
But Ryan refused to compete in any match that was to last less than 25 minutes. And that’s when the negotiations came to a standstill.

Jones explained what happened during the first episode of his “El Segundo” podcast:

It was only five, six weeks out from the event and they called me to face Gordon.

And they were, like: “What ruleset do you want to do?”
And I’m, like: “Well, it’s six weeks away, can we do 15 minutes?”

You want me to face a guy who’s bigger than me that prefers longer matches on six weeks’ notice.

Gordon wasn’t having any of it, though:

And they’re, like: “Okay, we’ll talk to Gordon.”
They come back, Gordon’s like: “25 minutes or nothing.”

I’m just, like: “We can do that later, but we’re not gonna do that in six weeks. At least meet in the middle here.”
