Craig Jones On The Harsh Financial Reality For UFC Fighters: “There’s Only One Conor McGregor”

Craig Jones has offered a sobering perspective on the financial expectations many MMA fighters carry – warning that the dream of becoming the next Conor McGregor is often far from reality.

Speaking on the B-Team YouTube channel, Jones addressed what he sees as a widespread misconception among athletes entering the world’s biggest MMA promotion:

I would say that most of the time when people move to the UFC, they’re thinking about their own bank accounts, more or less.

Even if that is based on correct or incorrect information, or their understanding about how combat sports works as a whole.

He didn’t hold back when delivering what he considers a necessary reality check:

The sad realization is everyone thinks they’re gonna be Conor McGregor, they’re going to make Conor McGregor money, they’re gonna get Conor McGregor stardom…
But, there’s only one Conor McGregor.

The stars of the UFC, it’s tough out there. MMA as a whole is not a very high-paying sport.

Jones’s comments reflect a common issue faced by many up-and-coming fighters: while the UFC offers unparalleled exposure and prestige, it doesn’t guarantee wealth.

Only a select few at the top of the sport earn significant money through fight purses, bonuses, and sponsorships.
For most of the roster, even those competing on high-profile cards, financial struggles remain a very real part of the journey.
