Conor McGregor says his long-awaited return to mixed martial arts is officially set — and this time, the venue might be the most improbable in sports history.
Speaking on The Sean Hannity Show, the former two-division UFC champion announced that his comeback fight will take place on the White House lawn as part of America’s 250th birthday celebration in 2026:
Done deal, signed, delivered. McGregor will compete in the White House for America’s 250th birthday.
The Irish superstar said he’s negotiating directly with the U.S. government rather than the UFC and has secured a contract for what he called “the biggest show in MMA history”.
McGregor hasn’t fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
He later withdrew from a scheduled bout with Michael Chandler after suffering a toe injury, but insisted that this return is real:
Me and Dana [White] are in constant communications.
We’ve done incredible business together.I’m entering training camp immediately — a six-month operation.
The event would be part of the Semiquincentennial celebrations marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence.
A White House task force chaired by former president Donald Trump is coordinating nationwide events, including a Great American State Fair on the National Mall.
However, neither the White House nor the UFC has confirmed McGregor’s announcement.
Dana White has acknowledged discussions with the Trump administration and shared early renderings of an Octagon on the South Lawn, but has stopped short of confirming McGregor’s participation.
