Chael Sonnen’s Grappling Event ‘Submission Underground’ Ignores Coronavirus & Will Be Held Today

Even with the current global pandemic situation caused by the new coronavirus, Chael Sonnen maintained his plans and will hold his submission grappling event “Submission Underground” this Sunday 29th March, in Oregon, USA  with live transmission from the streaming service ‘UFC Fight Pass’.

The event wil held with closed gates, and without the presence of spectators. The organization also pledged to carry out all preventive measures, such as, for example, checking athletes before and cleaning the combat areas before each match. The presence of the press at the show will also be prohibited.

The main match of SUG 12 will be between ADCC silver medalist Craig Jones, and ‘King’ Kevin Casey, black belt under Rickson Gracie and former MMA fighter (Strikeforce, UFC and Bellator) , with a record of nine wins and six losses in mixed martial arts.

In the co-main event, the experienced Jake Ellenberger, who has built a long career in MMA, with 31 wins and 15 losses, and fought for years in the UFC will face Ben Egli. Initially, Jake was to face veteran Carlos Condit, however, the American was removed from the card.

Retired from MMA since June last year, when he was defeated by Lyoto Machida at Bellator 222, Chael Sonnen remains directly involved in the fight world. In addition to his role as a commentator on American ESPN, the controversial American also acts as a businessman.

Another event that will be held without spectators is the upcomming UFC 249.
