Chael Sonnen is an ex UFC fighter and, a lot of people would argue, one of the best entertainers today.
He is know for his hot takes, funny anecdotes, but also for being straightforward – such as was the case with his PED use.
Namely, back in 2010, following his UFC 117 fight against Anderson Silva, Sonnen was tested positive for elevated testosterone levels.
Later on, he failed another random test for human growth hormone, EPO, anastrozole, and human chorionic gonadotropin… All of which ultimately led to his release from the UFC and a global competition suspension of up to two years.
In a recent podcast episode with Andrew Schulz, Chael spoke up on the biggest advantage of PED use that he’d experienced:
The training for that sport is so difficult… I used to wake up every morning, depressed knowing what I had to do that day before I get back to bed. It was the most defeated feeling…
I would go to bed sometimes, when I could barely get into bed – and then I’d get up the next morning and it was a distant memory [due to PED-induced recovery].
The recovery was incredible.
Recovery matters a lot, in all sports – including basketball.
Sonnen claimed that LeBron James is using EPO… An information he retrieved from a trusted source:
If the world knew what LeBron does… [Maybe they’d say:] “Yeah, but it doesn’t matter. It’s like a baseball player, you’re hitting a ball with a stick, it doesn’t matter.”
No, no… If you knew what these performance enhancers did, then you would know why it does matter. We have the same drug guy, so I know exactly what he [LeBron] is doing.
EPO matters, that’s the reason why LeBron takes it. EPO increases your red blood cells, which gives you endurance so you can play all game long.
You can shoot in the fourth quarter just like you did in the first. It’s the king of performance enhancers.
Sloth Jiu-Jitsu: you can be slow and unathletic and still kick butt in Jiu-Jitsu.
