Brianna Ste-Marie Wins a 3-Hour Submission-Only Match

The number of “submission-only” matches is steadily increasing all around the world, as this format of grappling tournaments steadily rises in popularity. However, the vast number of these matches aren’t really submission only. That is to say, their rulesets possess a time limit and judges which score the match in cases when a submission doesn’t take place.
However, Brianna Ste-Marie – 2021 ADCC East Coast Trials winner and a Combat Jiu-Jitsu champion – recently competed in a real submission-only match.

The match took place under the “Washington Submission Series” event, as Ste-Marie competed against Hannah Sharp. The match lasted for 2 hours and 45 minutes!
After this, almost 3 hours long feat, Ste-Marie earned the win via a Triangle Choke. Here’s what she had to say about the whole experience:

Won my no-time limit sub-only superfight with Hannah by triangle choke, 2 hours and 45 minutes into the match.
Ups and downs throughout the fight. But it was without a doubt one of the more challenging moments in my BJJ career.

Big thank you to @duck_jitsu @washington_submissionseries for organizing this great event against a killer opponent. It’s a pleasure to see more women headlining events these days.
