Brendan Schaub and Nate Diaz have had an ongoing beef for quite some time…
But Schaub has now challenged Diaz to a grappling match!
Typically, when fighters have a score to settle, they prefer stepping into the cage under familiar MMA rules.
However, there are unique circumstances preventing that from happening between Schaub and Diaz.
Schaub has been retired from MMA for nearly a decade, while Diaz hasn’t competed in an MMA fight since 2022, when he left the UFC to become a free agent.
Instead of pursuing his MMA career elsewhere, Diaz has transitioned to boxing. Although his boxing debut in 2023 ended in a loss to Jake Paul – Diaz bounced back in his second match, defeating longtime rival Jorge Masvidal by decision.
And, even though Diaz hasn’t competed in a grappling match in years, his experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu far outweighs Schaub’s.
Diaz has been training in Jiu-Jitsu since childhood and frequently competed early in his career at the lower belt levels.
He even famously squared off against Ryan Hall in the gi.
On the other hand, Schaub’s grappling experience is much more limited.
His only high-profile Jiu-Jitsu bout came in 2013 at Metamoris 2, where he lost a decision to Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu.
