Blink-182 Drummer Travis Barker Starts Training Jiu-Jitsu At 50 Years Old

Travis Barker has added Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to his ever-expanding list of pursuits!

The Blink-182 drummer recently revealed that he has begun training with Jean Jacques Machado.
Barker celebrated his 50th birthday just months ago.

Speaking in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, he explained how proximity played a major role in choosing Machado as his instructor:

Jean Jacques Machado has a spot right down the street from me and I would always run by his gym and I ran into him at the coffee spot I go to all the time and I just rolled in one day and started training again.

Like many high-profile practitioners, Barker trains in a more private setting that allows him to balance music, touring, and studio time:

I do privates with him…
Hour and a half, two hour sessions and he’s right down the street, so it can work with my schedule at the studio.

While Barker hasn’t yet tested himself in competition, he didn’t dismiss the idea when it came up:

I think maybe as I get further in Jiu-Jitsu, it would be fun.
