BJJ Competitor Shot During Tournament In Manaus (Brazil)

According to a report coming from Tatame, a tragic event unfolded last Saturday (May 29) at a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in Manaus (Brazil).

During the Federação Amazonense de Jiu-Jitsu (FAJJE) North and Northeast Championship – at the Amadeu Teixeira Multisport Arena – a 25-year-old athlete, identified by the name of Matheus Rogério Machado de Castro, was shot in the chest.
The athlete was attended to by the paramedics, but passed away soon after.

The suspect of shooting and killing Rogério has so far not yet been identified by the local police.
According to reports, the investigators have started the process of gathering evidence.

Additionally and according to Tatame, it appears that Matheus Rogério – the victim – has been accused of murder as well.
He was accused of killing Fernanda Caroline Pinho, commonly known as the “Barbie Of Trafficking”, back in 2019.

Rogério was also arrested earlier in March this year, for drug trafficking and illegal possession of a firearm. He was released shortly after.

The local police has suspended the BJJ tournament in the aftermath of the tragic incident.
In a note to the press, the Secretariat of State for Sports and Leisure has informed that the security for the event was fully provided by the Amazonian Jiu-Jitsu Federation.
