Andre Galvao: “I Am The Only Person That Is At The Same Time A Head Of Team (Atos) & A Top Competitor.”

Galvao

Multiple world and ADCC champion Andre Galvao talked to ADcombat about his preparations for the IBJJF Worlds. He talked about his position as a team leader at Atos and a world class competitor:

“KP-The Worlds is less than 3 weeks away. How’s training been?
AG- Training has been 1000%. Without a doubt this has been one of the best training camps I’ve ever had, Every day I feel better and the goal is to peak at the Worlds.

KP- You are in top form with gold in the Pan and the World Pro. Now with your sights set on the Worlds what are you looking forward to in terms of performance
AG- I expect to be even better than before. I viewed the other tournaments as a preparation for this event. To me the World title is the most important title there is. I will be there at my best and ready to do my best

KP- How do you view your position as one of the top BBJ’ers in the World?
AG- I am very happy with everything that has happened. I believe I am the only competitor that doubles up as head of a team (Atos Team) and is also competing in this Worlds. I am very happy with everything that is going on in my life. It is the result of a lot of hard work and dedication and love as well. It is a great feeling without a doubt, and now I need to train even harder to maintain and defend that position and it isn’t easy

KP- Who do you see as your toughest opponents for the Worlds?
AG- I believe very fight is a fight and every opponent is tough. I need to be ready and alert because nowadays there are no easy opponents. Opponents are always analyzing your game and I have to work hard to surprise them always. I am focused on each fight, each situation and each moment. Everyone is though these days. I don’t like to focus on one opponent over another because what my goal is to win the event and to do that I need to win every match

KP- To what do you attribute the success of your team (Atos) in the last few tournaments?
AG- I believe the differences are the way we train, our teaching methods and the way we study Jiu-Jitsu. Also our desire to win is a huge factor. I always try to motivate my students and training partners to do their best. Our motto is train hard and be dedicated to the goals

KP- What motivates you to train and to get better these days?
AG- My students, my family and my friends are my greatest incentive. I have strong faith and I believe in the power of the Lord. If I do something it is done for Him with that thought in mind I always do my best to honor Him. As long as I am competing I will be at the top always!”
