American athlete Amit Elor, girlfriend of Jiu-Jitsu world champion Mica Galvão, made history at the Paris Olympics last Tuesday – by securing a gold medal in wrestling, in the up to 68kg division.
At just 20 years old, Elor became the youngest American to win gold in the sport.
Elor’s journey to the gold medal involved four decisive victories.
In her debut, she defeated Turkish wrestler Buse Tosun Çavuşoğlu with a score of 10-2. She continued her dominance in the quarterfinals by defeating Poland’s Wiktoria Choluj 8-0.
In the semifinals, Elor showcased her prowess by winning 10-0 against North Korea’s Pak Sol Gum.
Finally, she won the gold medal in the final with a 3-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova, cementing her place in Olympic history.
Mica Galvão took to social media to celebrate his girlfriend’s achievement:
Olympic Champion. So happy, not only for the title, but for everything it represents.
You fought so hard all these years, I saw how much you were willing to fight for your dream and I knew this day would come.
I am very proud to be part of your story, and may many more achievements come, my love.
