Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship To Be Held In November 2020

AJP Chairman announces strategy and timeline for return of competitions

The Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP), His Excellency Abdulmunan Al Hashemi, released a message of hope and optimism to all athletes, fans and officials. He shared the steps the AJP is taking to secure a return of Jiu-Jitsu competitions in a safe manner after the Covid19 pandemic.

In his message, His Excellency stressed how the UAEJJF and the AJP acted rapidly to make sure our community was safe. For the first time in 12 years, a decision was made to postpone the 2020 Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, originally scheduled for April 11-17.

“We didn’t take that decision easily. We have been working continuously to come up with solutions for our community during such difficult times,” said His Excellency.

In his message His Excellency announced that the AJP has been working nonstop to give the Jiu-Jitsu community peace of mind and a timeline for the return of our activities.

“We are pleased to announce that our team is already working with a new timeline for the 2020 ADWPJJC and other events. The month of November 2020 is the most tentative target for having the Jiu-Jitsu community once again gathered at the Jiu-Jitsu Arena, in Abu Dhabi,” revealed the Chairman.

The World Pro in Abu Dhabi started in 2009. It gathers 5,000 competitors from more than 100 countries who compete for a prize fund of over $2.5 million.

Faisal Al Ketbi, a four-time Jiu-Jitsu World Championship champion, has been preparing for the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. Al Ketbi told The National.

“Under the present situation when every sporting activity around the world is at a standstill, it is like music to the ears to hear jiu-jitsu’s biggest event is going to take place. It will be a very special edition,”

“I can only do my best and keep trying like every year. I have been going through my fitness program. I have been doing it twice a day and now it’s just once a day because of Ramadan.”
