58-Year-Old BJJ Instructor Claudio “Claudinho” Koeb Found De@d In Gracie Barra Academy

A wave of sadness swept through the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community on Friday, August 1st, with the sudden passing of Professor Claudio Koeb – known as Claudinho.

The 58-year-old black belt was found lifeless inside the Gracie Barra Academy in the Fazenda Velha neighborhood of Araucária, Brazil.

According to students, Claudinho was expected to teach an early afternoon class as usual.
When he stopped responding to messages, concerned colleagues went to the academy and discovered him unresponsive in the break room.

Emergency services (SAMU) were called, but could only confirm his passing.

While the official cause of death is pending results from Civil Police investigators, initial reports point to a sudden cardiac arrest, as there were no signs of violence at the scene.

Claudinho was a 3rd-degree black belt and had dedicated over a decade of his life to teaching at Gracie Barra Araucária.

More than just a teacher, it is said that he was a mentor, role model, and pillar of his local community.
He played a key role in various social initiatives, helped students from all walks of life earn their belts, and extended his knowledge of self-defense to specialized units such as RONE (Military Police of Paraná) and ROMU (Municipal Guard).
